Confessions of a Foodaholic

No matter what time of day it is, whether I’ve just eaten or if I’m about to go to bed….I’m always thinking about food! Eating makes me happy…just ask my fiancé, if I’m not fed I get very grumpy. Whether I’m thinking about what I’m going to cook that night, asking colleagues what they are cooking or thinking about where I want to eat out, food plays a big part in my day-to-day thoughts! Yes I know I’ve heard it all before, “where do you you put it?”, “how are you so skinny?” You can read more about these kind of comments on my Stop With The Skinny Shaming blog post. Any way…as I find myself thinking more and more about food I thought this would be the perfect place to share with you my favourite places to eat out and my favourite dishes to cook at home!

My top 3 favourite places to eat out

Bishops – This is a small family run business in the Norwich lanes that is absolutely incredible! I have been there a couple of times now for work meals and I can not fault the food. You are always warmly welcomed by the owner, supplied with nibbles at the bar before you are taken to your table. It’s a small restaurant with only a few tables and the menu changes every few months to keep it fresh. The portions aren’t huge but the flavours more than make up for that! If you are ever in Norwich you HAVE to visit – book well in advance as it’s very popular.

Wagamama – Okay so this one isn’t out of the ordinary and doesn’t break moulds, BUT it is probably top of my list of favourites! Freshly cooked, well flavoured and never disappointed. I love the gyoza and chilli quid starters and will normally go for the Yaki Udon or some kind of Ramen for main! If you get full they will box up your left overs to take home…what’s not to love?!

The Original Smokehouse – This is a new one on the list and somewhere I have only visited once, but it made that much of an impact that it made it on the list! If you love meat this place is definitely for you! Me and Shah had a platter to share with an added portion of beef brisket and that was the best decision EVER! The brisket melted in your mouth, the chicken wings were huge and then here were fries, potato tots, coleslaw and corn. There isn’t one near us in Norwich but I can feel a Westfield trip coming soon just to eat here again!

My top 3 favourite meals to cook at home

Salan – My fiancé Shah is of Pakistani heritage, living at home he was cooked traditional Pakistani food every day. So when we moved in to our house together it was top of the list to learn some dishes from his mum! His absolute favourite is Kidney Bean Salan, so I spent a Saturday afternoon with his mum learning her ways around the kitchen! I was so happy when I made it for the first time and it went down well with Shah too! I have since made a chickpea version (chunna) and it was incredible!

Spaghetti Bolognese – A favourite of mine for years! My Nannie makes the most amazing Spag Bol and always cooked batches for me once I moved out so I could still have her home cooking! Now I have someone to cook for I thought it was something I needed to master for myself! It’s one of my favourite meals to cook and it may not be exactly the same as Nannie’s but it’s a pretty good version, if I do say so myself!

Roast Dinner – well any kind of gravy covered dinner…I LOVE gravy! When I lived on my own I would go months without a roast as it was too much to do for one person! But now I don’t need an excuse to cook a roast, I even cooked one in the summer when it was 35 degrees outside! I usually cook chicken but I also love lamb and the more gravy the better – it needs to swim!

I could go on and on and this post would get overly long and I would get overly hungry, so I’m going to leave it there! I would love to know what your favourite meals are or where you love to eat out! Give me some inspiration and some excuses to try new things!
